A local fire brigade has paid tribute to a nine-year-old killed in an attack at a German Christmas market.
André Gleißner died after his car plowed into a crowd of shoppers at a market in Magdeburg on Friday night, according to the Schöppenstedt fire department.
In a statement, they said he was a member of the children’s fire brigade in Warle, which is about an hour’s drive from Magdeburg.
Four women aged 45, 52, 67 and 75 were also killed in the attack. The authorities are keeping the suspect in pretrial detention on charges of murder, attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.
