The New Jersey government offers the ANCHOR (Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters) program that provides tax credits for eligible residents.
Most NJ residents who qualified for the ANCHOR program may have received confirmation letters from officials and their application must be submitted automatically. Some NJ residents must apply for the ANCHOR discount, the deadline of December 06, 2024 has passed, and residents can check the status of their application.
In August 2024, New Jersey officials launched the ANCHOR program for NJ residents based on residency, income and age as of 2021. Under the program, residents who own or lease property in New Jersey receive property tax relief as their primary home.
As we mentioned, the last date to apply for an ANCHOR benefit or update additional information was December 6, 2024. NJ residents who received an ANCHOR discount last year may not need to do anything because their application will be submitted automatically, however, some apply.
NJ residents who recently applied just before the deadline can easily check their ANCHOR rebate benefit status on the official website and find out payment updates. Most NJ residents who applied early or had their applications automatically processed may have already received their payments.
NJ residents who want to track their NJ ANCHOR rebate status can follow the steps below to see where their application stands:
According to reports, ANCHOR rebate payments started in November 2024, so most claimants will be able to see the benefit payment date. However, if you recently applied in early December 2024, you can expect a later payment date.
The NJ ANCHOR discount may vary based on the applicant’s gross income, age or other factors. As we mentioned earlier, payments will be made based on age, income and residence for 2021. NJ residents should know that the rebate amount will never exceed the property taxes they paid during the year.
So, the discount amount based on age and income is divided when you owe on the property or have a rental property for which you paid property taxes and it was your primary home in 2021. So, based on the categorized discount amount under the ANCHOR Program, you can check the rebate amount:
| Gross income in 2021 | Age 64 or younger | Age 65 or older |
| $150,000 or less | 1500 dollars | 1750 dollars |
| $150,001 – $250,000 | 1000 dollars | 1250 dollars |
| Age | Amount of compensation |
| 64 or younger in 2021 | 450 dollars |
| 65 or older | 700 dollars |
Important Note: Applicants who are 65 or older do not pay a New Jersey tax return, they also receive a property tax credit of up to $50, so if applicants have not claimed a credit, they will receive a credit with the ANCHOR rebate in both scenarios, either that you are a home owner or renter.
The NJ Treasury says the ANCHOR rebate will be processed within 90 days of the application if the information on the application is correct. NJ residents whose applications need more information may have to wait longer for their payment as officials will ask for more information.
Therefore, we mentioned earlier that NJ residents who applied early or residents whose applications were filed automatically had to receive a rebate payment by November 2024. Most residents have changes in their lives, such as relationship status, or others must apply for a special circumstances under the ANCHOR program.
Applicants who applied late or updated their information can expect to be paid based on their application date. Recipients can calculate their payment timing based on the time of application, such as early December applicants can expect to receive their rebate payment in February 2025.
The NJ Department of Finance has warned NJ residents to never share their personal and confidential financial information in messages or emails they receive because authorities never send messages or emails asking for your information to send ANCHOR rebates.
Authorities say a scammer may impersonate the NJ State Treasury or IRS to trick you into providing your information in the name of an ANCHOR benefit, so be careful with such text messages or emails.
If you ever come across such text messages or emails, you must notify the Federal Trade Commission immediately and always check with the authorities before sharing your information.
The deadline to apply for the NJ ANCHOR benefit has passed, NJ residents who have recently applied or are waiting for a rebate payment can check their benefit status online and see the rebate payment date.
