Ontario Trillium Benefit Payment Dates 2025: Check the Payment Schedule!

The Ontario Trillium Benefit helps beneficiaries pay their energy, sales and property tax costs through a loan. Ontarians eligible for OTB must be wondering about their 2025 payment dates as we are just one month away from 2025. Such recipients can check the 2025 OTB payment dates here and mark them on their calendars.

Ontario Trillium 2025 Fee Payment Dates

The Canada Revenue Agency administers the Ontario Trillium Benefit on behalf of the Ontario government. This combined fee covers three credits: the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit and the Ontario Tax Credit.

OTB payments for 2025 are based on 2023 income tax, so the final OTB entitlement is divided by 12 to show the monthly payments. The agency processes OTB payments on the 10th of the month for the financial year 2024-2025. (July 2024 – June 2025).

If the 10th day of the month falls on a national holiday or weekend, the agency will make the payment on the last working day before the day of payment. OTB recipients can mark the payment schedule below:

What makes you eligible for the Ontario Trillium Benefit 2025?

Ontarians are eligible for OTB when they qualify for one of the credits: the Northern Ontario Energy Credit, the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit. These are the eligibility conditions for the three loans:

  • Northern Ontario Energy Credit
  • You lived in Northern Ontario on December 31, 2023 and paid rent or property tax for your principal residence,
  • You have paid the cost of accommodation in a non-profit or for-profit long-term care home.
  • You have paid the electricity costs for your main residence
  • You are 18 years of age or older or have or have had a common-law partner and spouse or are a parent whose child lives/has lived with you
  • Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit
  • You have paid property taxes for your principal Ontario residence, housing costs for 2023 or home energy costs,
  • You lived in a certain collegeMre, university or private school residence in 2023.
  • Ontario Sales Tax Credit
  • You should be at least 19 years of age or older, or
  • Your child lives or lived with you during the tax year, or
  • You were or are in a marriage or cohabitation and you paid sales tax.

How much will you get in OTB 2025?

As we mentioned, OTB is a combined payment of three loans, so the OTB payment will be the total amount of the loan you qualify for, if you qualify for only two loans, you will receive a payment of two loans total.

The loan amount depends on your family, age and other factors, so the recipient’s payment varies from person to person. Recipients can calculate the maximum OTB payout based on the three credits listed below:

  • Northern Ontario Energy Credit
  • For single individuals, you can get a maximum credit of up to $180
  • Families can receive a maximum credit of up to $277
  • Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit
  • If you are between the ages of 18 and 64, you can receive payments of up to $1,248
  • If you’re 65 or older, you can receive payments of up to $1,421
  • If you live in a public or reserved long-term care home, you can get a maximum credit of up to a maximum credit of $277
  • If you lived in residence at a private school, designated college or university in the tax year, you can get up to $25.
  • Ontario Sales Tax Credit
  • You can receive a payment of up to $360 under the tax credit
  • You can get an additional credit of up to $360 if you have a spouse or common-law partner and a dependent child under the age of 19 living with you.

How will OTB payouts be paid out?

OTB recipients receive OTB payments by direct deposit, if you have not signed up for direct deposit, you can receive it using the traditional method. Recipients receive payment in lump sums once or monthly, depending on the following conditions:

  • If you receive an OTB benefit of more than $360, you can choose between two options – (i) you will receive monthly payments, (ii) you will receive the benefit payment as a single payment in June 2025.
  • If your OTB payment is $360 or less, you may have already received your July 2024 lump sum payment.
  • If your total OTB is more than $2 but less than $10, your payment could be $10.
  • If your OTB withdrawal is $2 or less, you will not qualify for OTB withdrawals.

How to request an OTB payment?

Recipients of OTB do not need to submit a separate request for payment if they have submitted an income tax return and benefits for the tax year. The CRA will use your tax information from your filed income tax return.

If you wish to receive all components of OTB payments, you must ensure that you have applied for all loans when you qualify. To apply for OEPTC/NOEC, you need to apply via form ON-BEN.

So if you want to receive your OTB benefits, make sure you file your income tax return on time even if you have no income to report to the authorities. The agency will notify eligible OTB residents with notice of their OTB eligibility and payment.

The CRA will issue an OTB payment for 2024-2025. on behalf of the Ontario government if you filed an income tax return for the 2023 tax year.
