A suspect has appeared in court following an attack at a German Christmas market on Friday that killed five people and injured more than 200.
The suspect, a doctor from Saudi Arabia, has been named as Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, who arrived in Germany in 2006 and was granted refugee status in 2016.
It comes as German authorities face a growing backlash after the alleged attacker used an ambulance access lane to enter the market.
During a visit on Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ministers and regional political leaders faced criticism from the public, some seemingly outraged by what was criticized as a security lapse.
