With 2025 just a few days away, Canadians who receive the government’s Canada Carbon Credit rebate must be wondering about next year’s payment dates to plan their finances. The CCR benefit allows Canadians to get back money paid in the federal carbon price.
The carbon credit helps Canadians offset carbon prices and fuel surcharges and encourages them to reduce their carbon footprint without putting a financial strain on them. So Canadians waiting for CCR payments in 2025 can find out payment dates and other details here.
CCR payment dates 2025
The Canadian government offers the Canada Carbon Rebate to reduce the financial burden on Canadians from fuel surcharges or the federal carbon price collected from residents. Through a federal carbon price, the government plans to reduce fuel consumption and encourage people to make an effort to become more environmentally friendly and switch to cleaner energy.
The carbon credit is paid quarterly to eligible citizens to whom federal fuel surcharges have been applied. Canadians will receive a discount depending on their family situation and the province they live in.
Canadians wondering about the 2025 CCR payment dates can check the following quarterly dates:
- January 15, 2025
- April 15, 2025
- July 15, 2025
- October 15, 2025
Canadians should be aware that if the 15th of the payment month falls on a public holiday or weekend, eligible CCR recipients will receive payment on the last business day prior to the payment date.

Under the Canada Carbon Rebate, the CRA offers a blanket payment and rural top-up payments to eligible Canadians to help cover their energy costs and contribute to a greener future. Eligible Canadians will receive a CCR payment based on their family size and the province of residence of the applicable CCR.
The government has not yet announced the amount of CCR payments for 2025, however, Canadians can expect an increase in rebates as the government raises the carbon tax by 21 cents.

Factors that may affect your CCR 2025 payment
Canadians should understand that carbon credit payments can be affected by the following factors that every CCR recipient should be aware of:
- Your family situation changes in the next financial year, such as a change in marital status, a new child in the family, the death of a recipient, a child over 19 or other. You should report significant changes to your family situation that could affect your payment to the CRA in order to receive the correct payment, otherwise your payment will be affected.
- If you have any debt owed to the CRA, the agency can recover the debt through rebate payments.
- The current 20% increase in Rural Allowance will increase your payment for people whose entitlement is determined on the basis of 2021 Census data.
How will you receive the Carbon Rebate 2025?
The Carbon Rebate is given to eligible residents when they claim the rebate on their federal tax return. Canadians eligible for the carbon credit will receive an upcoming payment in January 2025 based on their tax return filed in 2024.
Canadians who wish to receive a carbon credit in the following quarterly payment dates should file a tax return in the 2025 tax season for the 2024 tax year. Therefore, Canadians do not need to separately apply for a CCR when they file their tax returns.
Now, Canadians who recently came to Canada and are residents of Canada can claim a discount by registering their Child for Child benefit (if you have a child) or you can fill out form RC151 for GST/HST credit to apply for CCR benefits.
The CCR benefit is a boon for many Canadians because it reduces the financial burden they have paid in fuel surcharges and helps them get their money back.
