Checking taxes on HMRC 2025: Deadline to check e-files and paper; How to claim?


HM -Ai revenues allow taxpayers to ask for tax refund if they have overpaid taxes. Citizens of the UK should say HMRC with a tax liability by October 05, 2025, and if they submit a paper check, they must handle it before October 31, 2025.

Tax refund

When the taxpayer floods the taxes, HMRC processes the refund, which includes refund on the next taxable income:

  • You have paid from your previous or current job, both, which can lead to overpayment

  • You paid more than expected.
  • Your revenue from the pension annuity

Know if you owe a tax refund

Taxpayers in the UK may determine whether they owe tax refund or not through tax data or HMRC accounts. HMRC also sends a letter of P800 (tax budget) to taxpayers when their tax refund. Taxpayers who have not received a letter to calculate taxes and think that they have paid too many taxes can follow the tax refund as follows:

  • You can go to the official website of the UK Government Services and use a tax refunding tool in the reffund.
  • You can access the tool on the site and click the Start Now button, where you will have to answer some questions that will help you identify if you owe a tax refund.
  • Taxpayers must create government Gateway ID if they do not have it and easily access to network services.

You can also check the eligibility of tax refund via the HMRC mobile application and directly verify the tax data for the 2024-25 tax year to see if the taxes are overpayed and qualify for refund.

Deadline for refund

HMRC enables taxpayers to request a tax refund for up to four years, which means that the refund of 2024 to 2029 will be required by 2029. The opportunity to obtain tax refund for the tax year can be lost if taxpayers do not seek within a four -year deadline.

Taxpayers may request a return tax on HMRC for the next tax year based on the deadline:

  • Tax year 2021-22 to 05. April 2026
  • Tax year 2022-23 to 5 April 2027
  • Tax year 2023-24 to 5 April 2028
  • Tax year 2024-25 to 5 April 2029.

You can use an additional legal rule B41 to get a tax refund if you missed the deadline. This regulation says that you will only get your return if the Government Agency is wrongly processing taxes, such as HMRC, DWP, etc.

How to claim?

Taxpayers in the UK may request a refund on the network on the Government of the Government of the UK or via the HMRC mobile application. The taxpayer may follow the steps below to fulfill the Requirement for the return of HMRC:

  • On the GOV.UK website, go to the Personal Tax account and click the Start Now button.

Important Note:

  • If you are looking for a tax refund for pension withdrawal, you may need to use different forms, such as the P55 (when the full pension does not withdraw), the P50Z (when full pension withdraws), etc.

Once you ask for a tax refund, HMRC can respond with approval or other decisions, and if approved, you can expect a refund to be processed in a weekly deposit week or 8 weeks to check paper.
