Under VA Disability Compensation, the Veterans Administration of the US Department of Veterans Affairs offers monthly financial assistance based on the degree of disability, family size and family situation. The administration paid the monthly payment of VAT on the last working day of the month.

What makes you eligible to receive VA payments?

Veterans who meet the veterans’ disability benefits criteria below may qualify for VA disability benefits:

  • First, you must meet the following two criteria:
  • You have served either active duty for training, active duty or inactive training, and
  • You are currently suffering from an illness or injury that affects your body or mind.
  • You must now meet at least the following eligibility criteria to receive VA payments:
  • You can apply for service disability if you became ill or injured while serving in the military and you can relate that condition to your illness or injury, or
  • You filed for pre-service disability because you were sick or injured before you joined the military and your service made the condition worse, or
  • You filed for post-service disability benefits because you had a disability from your active duty that did not become apparent until after you left the military.
  • Veterans who meet the following conditions automatically receive VA disability payments:
  • When you have some presumed conditions that do not need to be proven, the administration automatically awards you VA disability benefits.
  • Presumptive conditions are a chronic illness that manifests itself only after one year of military retirement, an illness or injury that occurred while you were a prisoner of war, or an illness that occurred when you came into contact with hazardous materials.

How Much Will Veterans Receive in 2025 VA Disability Benefits?

Veterans’ disability benefits rates increased for 2025 thanks to the 2025 COLA increase calculated and announced by the Social Security Administration in October 2024. Supporting Evidence to Claim VA Payments

Veterans who wish to claim VA disability benefits must submit the following evidence and documents in order to claim disability benefits:

  • Your VA medical records related to your current medical or physical conditions that worsened after your services,
  • If you have private medical reports or records, you can also present them to claim VA disability,
  • You will need to present supporting statements from family members, people you served with, legal staff, or members of the clergy who claim how and when the condition worsened.

How can you claim VA disability benefits?

Veterans who have not claimed VA disability benefits despite being eligible, or who have just retired and are eligible for benefits, can claim payments in the following ways:

  • Online at Va.gov: You can visit the official Veterans Administration website for disability benefits at and start your application.
  • Mail: You can also download VA Form 21-526EZ and mail it to the Department of Veterans Affairs at the mailing address: Department of Veteran Affairs, Claims Intake Center, PO BOX 4444, Janesville, WI 53547 4444.
  • In person or by fax: You can visit your nearest VA office and ask for a VA disability form and easily apply, or you can fax your application to 844 531 7818 (when in the US) or 248 524 4260 (when outside the US).
