The Singapore government has improved the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) which will be effective from 2025. Singaporean workers wondering about WIS payments which will increase from 2025 can check every detail here.
The Singapore government offers low-wage skilled workers with pay and CPF contributions through the Workfare Income Supplement scheme. The program encourages people on low incomes to work and receive support while saving for their retirement.
The Singapore government has announced improvements to WIS, a scheme for low-income workers to help them get some financial assistance and save in CPF. WIS is one of the essential worker programs that helps low-income families.
The enhancement to this scheme will take effect from 2025 onwards, so as 2025 approaches, recipients need to check for an increase in their WIS payout. Under the WIS scheme, employed and self-employed individuals receive this benefit based on age and salary.
Based on the WIS scheme, employees and the self-employed can check their payment for 2025 below:
| Age | WIS payment from 2025 |
| 30-34 (view, expert). | 2450 dollars |
| 35-44 (view, expert). | 3500 dollars |
| 45-59 (view, expert). | 4200 dollars |
| 60 or more | 4900 dollars |
| People with disabilities | 4900 dollars |
The government offers a WIS payment which is a combined form of CPF contribution and cash payment, therefore the payment is split between cash and CPF contributions to ensure that workers are financially supported as well as save money for their retirement. The scheme does not only think about their present but also about their future financial security.
So, based on that, 2025 employees will get WIS payment, with 40% getting cash payment and 60% going to their CPF account, while in the case of self-employed, the distribution of WIS payment is 10% cash and 90 % goes to MediSave.
The HFP contributions are paid directly by the competent authority into the HFP account, while the Medisave payment will also be made directly. With this approach, WIS payments also take care of self-employed people’s health needs and future financial stability.
Under the WIS scheme, employees and the self-employed will receive cash payments into their accounts or through GovCash. The salary depends on the payment method you receive your WIS cash payment.
A bank account payment is processed via PayNow-NRIC/ or direct bank credit, so it will be processed earlier, while a GovCash payment will be processed a little later. Under the WIS scheme, Singaporeans can expect a monthly payout as per the following schedule:
| Payment month | Bank lending/ PayNow-NKRI | GovCash |
| January | End of March | 1st week of Apr |
| February | End of April | 1st week of May |
| March | End of May | 1st week of June |
| April | End of June | 1st week of July |
| May | End of July | 1st week of August |
| June | Since August | 1st week of September |
| July | End of September | 1st week Nov |
| August | End of October | 1st week of Nov |
| September | End of November | 1st week of Dec |
| October | End of December | First week of January 2026 |
| November | At the end of January 2026 | First week of February 2026 |
| December | At the end of February 2026 | First week of March 2026 |
With the increase in WIS payments for 2025, the government has also increased the monthly income and other changes that will affect the eligibility conditions of the WIS scheme. Singaporeans are therefore advised to check the following revised WIS eligibility requirements to ensure their eligibility:
Under the WIS scheme, employees with employer-paid CPF contributions do not need to do anything to apply for the scheme. The government will use your CPF account and contribution details to determine your eligibility and if you are eligible, the body will send you a payment.
However, we cannot say the same for the self-employed, as they will need to declare their income for the tax year 2024 to IRAS (Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore) and will need to contribute to MediSave to unlock WIS payments. The self-employed will receive a notification from IRAS or will meet the requirements for tax reporting.
Self-employed people will receive payments based on their filed tax returns, so self-employed people must file their taxes in order to receive WIS benefits. They will need to open a Medisave account and make contributions based on their income.
The Workfare Income Supplement boosts pension savings for people on low incomes or self-employed people with low incomes or care for health care needs. The government has increased the WIS payment for 2025 and you can see the effect from the payment month of January 2025.
