A long-delayed Gaza ceasefire may stop the killing, but it won’t end the conflict

Hamas can still fight but it is a shadow of what it is.

Iran and Israel exchanged direct attacks – weakening Iran. A network of allies and proxies called Tehran’s Axis of Resistance has been crippled.

The Houthis in Yemen have stopped most shipping between Europe and Asia via the Red Sea – it remains to be seen whether they will keep their promise to stop attacks now that there is a ceasefire in Gaza.

As for the long conflict between Israel and Palestine – it is as bitter as it has ever been.

A ceasefire could, with luck, stop the killing and get Israeli hostages, and Palestinian prisoners and prisoners back to their families.

It did not end the conflict that was more than a century old.
