Biden warned of the ‘dangerous’ oligarchy in his final address

Speaking from the Oval Office where his family gathered to watch, he touted the record of his single-term administration, citing job creation, infrastructure spending, health care, leading the country out of the pandemic, and making America a safer country.

He added, however, that “it will take time to feel the full impact of all we have done together, but the seeds are planted, and they will grow and they will flourish for decades to come”.

Biden hoped for the success of the incoming administration of Donald Trump, but then issued a series of pointed warnings, with the president saying “a lot is at stake now”.

On climate change, he said “the powerful want to use their uncontrolled influence to eliminate the steps we are taking to overcome the climate crisis to serve their own interests for power and profit”.

On misinformation, Biden warned that “the American people are buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation, which allows the abuse of power”.
