Blue Jackets Werenski in, Marchenko and Oliver out vs. Maple Leafs

Werenski suffered an upper-body injury in Columbus’ 5-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday but won’t be out anytime soon.

It’s unclear when the injury occurred, but Werenski left the game with 17:36 of time on the ice.

The 28-year-old has 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists), third among defensemen in the NHL. He is second in average ice time at 26:50 per game.

Marchenko, meanwhile, missed Monday’s game with an upper-body injury suffered during the day’s morning skate, which he left early.

The 25-year-old is the Blue Jackets’ leading scorer through 23 games, with eight goals and 14 assists while averaging 18:58 of ice time per night — the most among forwards.

Oliver, 28, also suffered an upper-body injury in the game against the Capitals, leaving the show after playing just 4:49 in the first period. It is not clear how he was injured.

The winger has three goals and six assists this season, along with a team-high 44 penalty minutes. He is averaging 13:60 ice time per night.

In the lineup will be slotting center Luca Pinelli, who is set to make his NHL debut.

Selected 114th overall by the Blue Jackets in 2023, the Stony Creek, Ont., native has five goals and five assists through 13 games with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League.

The Blue Jackets (11-9-3) are hoping to snap a two-game skid when they host the Maple Leafs (9-10-3), who have lost seven of their last 10 games.
