Canucks are listening to trade offers on ‘veteran players’

According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have reported that – in an effort to be younger – they are ready to listen to offers on “experienced players”.

The obvious question is: Does this mean Quinn Hughes? I have been told that the answer is no, at this time.

“They’ve made it clear (trading him) is not their priority right now,” one executive said. (Philip Hronic is another player teams feel is unlikely to go anywhere.)

What that appears to be is likely to be UFAs and potentially a player or two with a term, but the Canucks have also indicated that they don’t want to drag it right down to the studs.

This process is notable because of Jim Rutherford’s track record. Historically, once he decides to act, he doesn’t wait. His resume is full of moves well before the trade deadline.

Now, he and GM Patrick Allen want to know what they can do.
