Chargers open practice window for RB Omarion Hampton

The Los Angeles Chargers are getting a key piece soon.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh announced the practice window is opening for rookie running back Omarion Hampton, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

Hampton has been sidelined with an ankle injury he suffered against the Washington Commanders in Week 5, leaving the Chargers with little running room to get the offseason after Najib Harris was also injured earlier in the season. Harris tore his Achilles in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos and has been ruled out for the season.

Kimani Vidal has become the returning starter in Hampton’s absence, and has taken advantage of the opportunity, rushing for 417 yards and two touchdowns through six games.

Hampton was the first running back taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Chargers drafting him 22nd overall out of the University of North Carolina.

In five games this season, the 22-year-old has 314 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
