HALIFAX — Rachel Homan played through an unexpected upset in the women’s final at the Canadian Curling Trials in Montana on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency alert notifications went up on spectators’ mobile devices throughout the Scotiabank Center before Homan was about to throw the rock in the second end of Game 2 against Christina Black.
A man who was the subject of an alert in Enfield, N.S., a half-hour drive north of Halifax, was safely taken into custody, the release said.
Earlier in the day, police advised city residents to stay inside and close and lock doors and windows as officers responded to “dangerous men with weapons.”
A round of applause was heard in the city’s Halifax arena as spectators read the alert that said there was no longer any danger to the public and that the shelter had been cancelled.
After the chorus was all over the place, Homan regrouped in Hack and shot him, but his Ottawa team finally gave Blake a deuce to Halifax’s side.
The winner of the women’s best-of-three final will represent Canada at the Milan Cortina Olympics. Homan defeated Black 5-4 in Friday’s opening game.
