Everton’s Gueye sent for slapping teammate vs. Man United

MANCHESTER, England – Everton midfielder Idrissia Gueye was sent off for slapping teammate Michael Keane during the first half against Manchester United on Monday.

Guo and Keane were at loggerheads when the midfielder turned the ball over which resulted in United’s Bruno Fernandes scoring in the 13th minute to make it 0-0 at Old Trafford.

Teammates were in front when Kean, a defender, shoved Gaye, who responded by slapping Kean in the face with a left hand. Referee Tony Harrington then showed Gaye a red card.

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and winger Iliman Ndiaye intervened to let Gueye go.

Premier League Match Center posted on X: “The referee’s call for a red card for Gaye was scrutinized and upheld by VAR – with the action deemed a clear strike on Kevin’s face.”
