An OHL championship run is very much in the sights of the Branford Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs made a big move to acquire top Philadelphia Flyers prospect Jet Luchanko in a blockbuster trade with the Gulf Coast on Monday, the teams announced.
Guelph received forward Lane Gallacher and four draft picks in return.
Luchanko, 19, was the Flyers’ first-round pick in 2024, 13th overall. A speedy center, he has 17 assists and 11 points in 15 games for the Hurricanes this season.
“We are incredibly excited to acquire Jett Luchanko,” Bulldogs general manager Spencer Hyman said. “Jett brings elite speed, is excellent at the point, and is an exceptional player. He is a player who immediately improves our hockey club. He has been a priority target for us from day one.”
Luchanko, of London, Ont., has appeared in four games in each of the past two seasons for the Flyers, but has yet to record one point in the NHL.
He represented Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships last year and is expected to be a key offensive piece of the team again next month.
The trademark marks the second major deal the Bulldogs have made this offseason after acquiring Toronto Maple Leafs first-round pick Ben Dunford and veteran defenseman Zachary Sandow for three players and nine draft picks from the Oshawa Generals.
The Bulldogs, who also feature NHL first-round picks Jack O’Brien (Cracken), Adam Jeric (Blues) and Mark Vanaker (Blackhawks), are currently in first place in the OHL with an 18-0-4-1 record.
Draft returns to Guelph include a 2027 second (via Kitchener), a 2028 second (via Sudbury), a 2029 third and a 2029 fifth (via Brampton).
