The Memphis Grizzlies’ night took an unexpected turn when starting center Zach Eddy left in the first quarter against the Denver Nuggets and never returned.
There was no clear moment that pointed to an injury, but the team dropped the 23-year-old into doubt not long after his departure. Head coach Tuomas Iisalo told reporters after the post, after ending as a 125-111 loss, Eddie took a hit on the head, but did not provide further updates.
The Toronto native has already dealt with injuries in his sophomore season, missing the Grizzlies’ first 13 games of the year while recovering from ankle surgery over the summer.
Eddy entered Monday having played in four consecutive games since his season opener, averaging 12.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 2.0 blocks through 25.3 minutes.
He left Monday’s contest after logging just two points and one rebound in six minutes of play.
Memphis returns to action on Wednesday at New Orleans.
