James goes on to hit three, Donkic triple-double in Lakers win over 76ers

PHILADELPHIA – LeBron James hit a late go-ahead three-pointer and scored 29 points, Luka Donic had a triple-double and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Philadelphia 76ers 112-108 on Sunday night.

Joel Embiid, who otherwise had a terrible shooting night for the 76ers, made an 18-footer that tied it at 105. James came right down and hit a 3 with 1:12 left for the lead and added 20 feet on the next possession to make it 110-105.

Doncic finished with 31 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists.

Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia with 28 points. Embiid made 17 of 21 shots and scored 16 points.

Donic, the NBA scoring leader, missed the last two games as he traveled to Slovenia where his fiancee gave birth to their daughter. James sat out Friday night against Boston with sciatica, which has sidelined him for the first 14 games of the season, and arthritis in his left foot.

James reached 10 points in the second quarter in his first game since his streak of 1,297 double-digit scoring games ended when the NBA’s career points leader ended with just eight Thursday night in Toronto.

James threw down a dunk in the first half that had a packed house roaring in what could be his last game in Philadelphia. James also had a shot at the rim denied by Embiid late in the half.

Embiid has dealt with his share of knee injuries this season but he wasn’t about to lose against James — his gold medal teammate at the 2024 Paris Games — and the Lakers. Embiid missed 10 of 11 shots in the first half but was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Lakers: Host San Antonio Wednesday night in the NBA Cup quarterfinals.

76ers: Host Indiana on Friday night.
