Jason Robertson had two goals and an assist, Casey DeSmith made 23 saves and the Dallas Stars beat the Montreal Canadiens 7-0 on Thursday.
Wyatt Johnston – with his 100th career goal – Issa Lindell, Tyler Seguin, Colin Blackwell and Aleksandar Petrovic also scored for Dallas (11-4-3), which won its fourth straight game. Redik Foxa provided three assists and Mikko Rantanen added two.
Dee Smith earned his first shutout of the season — and the Stars’ second in 2025-26.
Jacob Dobbs allowed five goals on 13 shots through two innings for Montreal (10-5-2) to suffer its second straight loss after starting the season with six straight wins. Sam Montembeault entered the game in the third period but didn’t improve much, stopping four of six.
The Canadians, who entered the night in first place in the Atlantic Division, lost their second game in a row and fourth in five outings.
Montreal controlled much of the first period, but Johnston opened the scoring on the power play at 14:21, ending a tic-tac-toe play with Roop Hintz and Rantinen.
The Stars then took a 5-0 lead in the second period with two goals each from Lindell, Seguin and Robertson.
Stars: Robertson scored twice in 99 seconds, later in the second, Dobbs pulled back before burying a wrist shot through a crowd as some fans exited with 3:11 left in the middle frame.
Canadiens: On top of the loss, forward Alex Newhoek left with an apparent right leg injury after crashing to the feet — first into the end boards — when he was tripped by Stars defenseman Ilya Lubshkin early in the second period.
Shortly after Newhoek was injured, Robertson sent Seguin behind the Canadiens’ defensemen on a breakaway with a heads-up breakout pass to make it 3-0 at 7:10 of the second.
The Stars extended their winning streak at the Bell Center to seven games, dating back to October 30, 2018.
Canadiens: Host the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
Stars: Host the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
