Jones, a six-time national women’s champion, died Tuesday at the age of 65.
She wore the blue and white Nova Scotia jacket at the 2011 Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Digby, NS
Her husband, Scott Sanders, and sons Zach and Luke were among several family members who took in the afternoon match between local favorites Christina Blake and Carrie Enerson.
Blake won 6-3 to advance to the final against Rachel Homan.
Jones, a Halifax native, was recently inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. She was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.
In her first season working with Homan’s Ottawa-based team, coach Heather Nieduhen has been impressed by Reinck’s drive, dedication and a sister she calls “very strong.”
“They definitely have the makings of a championship — both on and off the ice — with their work ethic,” Nidohen said Thursday morning.
Homan, third Tracey Fleury, second Emma Mischow, lead Sarah Wilkes and alternate Rachel Brown had a 25-minute practice session to prepare for their best-three final.
The team topped the round-robin standings and earned a direct path to the finals. The first place men’s team left by Brad Jacobs also practiced on the off day.
Several Olympians will be in the field at the upcoming Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Ottawa.
Mike Harris, who led Canada to silver at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, will represent Ontario in the Nov. 29-Dec. 6 event.
Glenn Booker, who won bronze with skip Shannon Kleebrick at the 2006 Turin Games, is the vice-skip for Delia de Jong’s Alberta side.
14 teams are participating in the men’s draw and 14 in the women’s draw. The winners will represent Canada at the 2026 World Senior Games in Geneva, Switzerland.
