Matt Coronato and Joel Farabee scored in regulation for Calgary (7-13-3), which improved to 4-1-1 in its last six home games.
Jason Robertson and Roop Heintz scored for Dallas (13-5-4). Robertson extended his goal streak to a career-best tying six games during which he lit up 10 times. He led the team with 13 on the season.
Casey D Smith took 31 wickets. DeSmith is 4-0-2 since losing his first start of the season on Oct. 16.
With each team scoring once through the first three shooters, Kadri put Calgary ahead when he stepped up to a backhand on a deck and ticked under the crossbar.
Cole stopped Hintz to pick up the win.
Dallas right winger Mako Runtinen was ejected in the final minute of the second period after he checked Coronato too hard into the sideboards from behind, leading the Flames with profuse blood pouring from his face.
It’s the second boarding major and game misconduct for Rantanen in six outings. He was also tossed to the New York Islanders in the final minute on Tuesday for a hit on Alexander Romanov.
Rantanen now leads the NHL with 57 penalty minutes, five more than Washington’s Tom Wilson.
Immediately throwing up his gloves in Coronato’s defense after Rantinen was hit was Jonathan Huberdeau, whose scrap with Rantinen was his first major clash since he battled Paul Byrne during the 2018-19 pre-season.
Stars: Dallas extended its point streak on the road to eight games (5-0-3). The Stars last lost in regulation on the road on October 18. His three-game hitting streak was snapped by Dee Smith, but he has points in each of his last six starts.
Flames: Coronato’s first-period power-play goal extended his goal streak to a career-best four games. After a concussion, Coronato returned to the game a few minutes into the third period. Rasmus Anderson extended his point streak to four games (two goals, five assists).
After Hints tied the score at 16:53 of the third, Calgary took consecutive penalties — McKenzie Weger for delay of game, John Beecher for tripping — giving Dallas’ No. 2-ranked power play a two-man advantage with 1:22 left, but the Flames hung on to send the game into overtime.
Robertson’s 10 goals during his six-game goal streak matched the 10 goals he scored during his first six-game goal streak from November 21 to December 1, 2022. Dino Ciccarelli (11 goals in 19830-84) was the only player in franchise history to score more during a 6-1-18-1-1 span.
Stars: Off until Tuesday when they take on the Edmonton Oilers.
Flames: Open a five-game road trip against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.
