When I asked them how they stay in progress with business news, everyone gave similar answers. “I read Wall Street Journal Because my parents told me. It’s thick. It’s dry. I can’t go through it. “

I was surprised. These were future business leaders who could not relate to the very content they were supposed to inform their career. But that shock encouraged the idea: What if I could create something different – something that made business news attractive and easily digest?

This idea has become Morning beerDaily newsletter with over four million subscribers. We have expanded beyond the general business news, with spin-off newsletters dedicated to retail, marketing, emerging technology, finances and more. I will share that growth journey below.

It grows from PDF to a massive newsletter

I had an idea – creating a product that makes business news attractive and unforgettable. I decided to test the idea of writing a daily newsletter.

Every morning I would spend hours combing Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Financial Timesand Economist Identify the most important stories for business students. Then I would break them to abstracts of 150 to 300 words that were informative but summarized.

The answer was immediate.

Despite having a zero technological infrastructure – I manually transformed Word Docs into PDF and sent them to E -after – our subscriber base was constantly growing.

I knew we had something special because it was painful to come on the list. Students had to send me directly to me -place only to add to my leaferkorner@umich.edu, in case you are curious). They even wanted a newsletter that friction anyway.

Within three months we had 750 subscribers at Michigan Business School, and that number soon increased to more than 1500.
