Manchester City took a two-goal lead before grabbing a stoppage-time winner through Phil Foden to seal a 3-2 win over Leeds in the Premier League on Saturday.
With Erling Holland failing to score for a third straight game, City relied heavily on Foden to overcome a team in the relegation zone.
The England international opened the scoring after 59 seconds – the fastest goal in the league this season – before Josep Guardiola added a second for City in the 25th.
Leeds responded in the second half through Dominic Calvert-Lyon and Lucas Namcha, a striker who came through City’s academy, before Foden headed home the winner in the first minute of added time.
City climbed into second place and closed the gap on first-place Arsenal, who visit Chelsea on Sunday, to four points.
Beating Newcastle 2-1 in the league last weekend and Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday, City were looking on a three-match winless run in all competitions before Foden’s late intervention.
Holland, the Premier League’s top scorer, has not scored in any of those games.
Sunderland produced an even better fightback than Leeds, also coming from two goals down to win 3-2 at home to Bournemouth. Brian Broby grabbed the winner in the 69th while Bournemouth’s second goal was a shot from about 50 yards by US midfielder Tyler Adams.
Brentford beat Burnley 3-1 in the second opener, with Igor Thiago scoring twice for the hosts.
Later, Newcastle visit Everton before Tottenham host Fulham.
