Rantinen helps struggling jets in the field of stars

Stars are 9-0-2 in their last 11 games.

Isa Lindell, Roop Heintz and Aleksandar Petrovic also scored for the Stars (21-5-5). Wyatt Johnston contributed a pair of assists.

Backup Casey DeSmith stopped 30 shots for Dallas. He has lost just once in regulation this season (7-1-3).

Mark Schaeffel scored twice for the Jets (14-14-1) in their first game of a four-game home stand. Logan Stanley also scored a goal and Kelly Connor picked up a pair of assists.

Eric Comrie stopped 15 shots for Winnipeg, which is 2-7-1 in its last 10 games.

Winnipeg head coach Scott Arniel rearranged his four lines to try to spark more secondary scoring, including moving winger Gabriel Vilardi off the top line with Conner and Scheiffel and putting Alex Iafallo in his place.

The Jets responded by getting behind 3-0 early in the second period before firing in a goal of their own in front of 13,675 fans at the Schaeffel Canada Life Center.

London scored the Stars’ first shot with 44 seconds left in the game.

Dallas entered the second period on the power play and Hintz scored his ninth goal of the season at 1:16. 75 seconds later, Petrovic made it 3-0.

Connor Stars defenseman Nels Lundqvist picked off the puck on a cleanup attempt and moved it to Scheiffel in the left circle, who fired in a shot by Dee Smith at 11:04.

Connor Scheiffel dashed the puck again in almost the same spot and the center sent a timer into the back of the net from a bending knee to make it 3-2 with 1:08 left in the middle frame.

After Robertson gave the Stars a two-goal lead on the power play at 4:46 of the third, Stanley got his rebound and made it 4-3 at 5:54.

Jets: Scheiffel’s 15th and 16th goals of the season moved him past Conner (15) for the team lead in goals. Winnipeg has now allowed a power play goal in six consecutive games, extending a season-long streak.

Stars: Rantinen’s three assists extended his point streak to seven games (three goals, 11 assists). Dallas already led the NHL in power-play goals with 30 entering the game and added two more (two-for-four).

The Jets went on a power play with 2:30 left in the third period, but the Stars put it away and put Winnipeg in the game 0-4. Dallas has not allowed a power play goal in their last nine games.

The Stars continued their road success, extending their franchise record to 13 games (9-0-4) with a point.
