Report: Closer Kenley Johnson signs one-year deal with Tigers

ESPN’s Jeff Passon reported Saturday that the longtime AL Central club signed a one-year contract.

Terms of the agreement were not immediately clear.

Johnson is the MLB career saves leader among active players with 476 totals, which ranks fourth — just two behind Lee Smith’s 478.

The longtime Dodger signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Angels last offseason, but the Tigers will be Johnson’s fourth club through 2022.

Through 59 innings with the Angels last season, Johnson posted a 2.59 ERA and recorded 29 saves.

The 38-year-old won a World Series with the Dodgers in 2020 and has accumulated 65.1 innings of postseason experience with him in Detroit’s bullpen.
