As the Indianapolis Colts push for their first AFC South division title in a decade, the health of their quarterback has come into the spotlight.
Daniel Jones suffered a fracture to his fibula but was a full participant in practice and will try to play through the injury, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.
It’s unclear when Jones suffered the injury, but the quarterback told reporters that “it was just something that was kind of hanging over him,” and that it was “just something that I felt last week, and it’s hard to say when.”
According to Rapoport, Jones “looked good” in practice and was told by sources that it is not an injury concern about the QB.
In his first year with the Colts, the 28-year-old Jones has thrown for 2,840 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His 69.1 completion percentage, 101.4 passer rating and 65.9 QB rating are all career bests.
He has added 159 yards on the ground with five rushing touchdowns.
The Charlotte, NC, native has guided the Colts to an 8-3 record and the top spot in the AFC South behind the NFL’s second most productive offense.
Should Jones miss a game, 2023 fourth-overall pick Anthony Richardson will have to step in under center despite throwing just two passes this season.
The Colts are set to square off Sunday against the division rival Houston Texans (6-5).
