Report: Mammoth’s Logan Cooley is suffering from a quad contusion

The Utah Mammoth forward sustained a quad strain Saturday against the St. Louis Blues, but early results suggest his ailment is limited. He will have an MRI to confirm there is no damage, hockey insider Frank Serravelli reported on Sunday.

Coley, the Mammoth’s leading scorer, was seen on the team bus postgame under his own power, per Serravalle.

The 21-year-old forward left Saturday’s game against St. Louis following a knee-to-knee collision with Blues forward Alexei Turochenko.

Cooley, with the help of trainers, went straight to the locker room without putting weight on his injured leg. Toropchenko was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct penalty for the hit.

However, Toropchenko will not receive any additional discipline, according to Blues reporter Andy Strickland.

Cooley continued to impress and improve in his third NHL season, recording a team-high 14 goals while adding nine assists in 26 games this year.

Last season, the 2022 third-overall pick posted 65 points (25 goals, 40 assists), a 21-point improvement from his rookie season.
