Report: Spurs’ DeAaron Fox expected to start Saturday vs. Pelicans

Already off to a hot start this season, the San Antonio Spurs could get a big boost to their lineup this weekend.

All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox is expected to make his season debut Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans after missing the start of the year with a hamstring injury, ESPN’s Shams Charnia reported Friday.

Fox suffered a hamstring injury in the offseason and is reportedly increasing his workload this week in preparation for his debut this weekend, per Charnia.

The 27-year-old guard has played just 17 games in a Spurs uniform since being acquired in a trade from the Sacramento Kings before the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.

In that time, he averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists before undergoing season-ending surgery in mid-March to repair a hernia in his left hand — an injury he suffered during training camp while still playing for Sacramento.

Due to injuries to both him and Victor Wambayama last year, the two Spurs stars have only been fit for five games together.

Fox, New Orleans, LA. A native of, the Kings were drafted fifth overall in 2017. In his eight NBA seasons, the former All-NBA guard has averaged 21.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.4 steals.

He will join a Spurs lineup that has gone 5-2 in the early part of the season and sits in fifth place in the Western Conference.
