The star is close to agreeing to a deal with the World Series champion Dodgers, The Athletic’s Will Simmons reported Tuesday.
The terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.
After missing all of 2023 with a torn patellar tendon, Diaz returned to the mound in dominant form over the past two seasons. But he was on the second level in 2025.
The 31-year-old right-hander had a 1.63 ERA for the New York Mets last season, recording 28 saves in 31 chances and striking out 98 batters in 66.1 innings. For his efforts, Diaz was named the 2025 Trevor Hoffman NL Reliever of the Year.
It marks the second time he has claimed the NL honor and the third time he has been named reliever of the year in 2022 with the Mets and Seattle Mariners in 2018.
A three-time All-Star, Diaz has a career 2.82 ERA and 253 saves. Since his debut with Seattle in 2016, he ranks second among all relievers in saves and first in strikeouts.
Diaz became a free agent this offseason after opting out of the final two years of the five-year, $102 million contract he signed with the Mets through 2022.
A third-round pick by the Mariners in 2012, Diaz was traded to New York as part of a package that sent Robinson Cano to the Pacific Northwest in 2018.
He has spent the last six years pitching in the Mets’ bullpen, helping the club reach the postseason in 2022 and 2024. In those two playoff runs, Diaz allowed three earned runs and six hits in 11.1 innings while striking out 15.
