The Senate voted last night to confirm Pete Hegseth as secretary of defense, and the outcome is still unknown as a Republican weighed in on President Trump’s choice to lead the Pentagon. .
Mr Hegseth’s confirmation came under fire earlier this week, when his former sister-in-law sent a statement to the Armed Services Committee in which she accused him of “abusing” his second wife and engaging with the public and private, including at least once if in uniform.
Mr. Hegseth denied the allegations in the affidavit, as he previously denied allegations of molestation, as well as allegations of financial mismanagement and embezzlement. But the documents forced the Republicans not to mention whether Mr. Hegseth has the character and the determination to manage about 1.3 million active troops and a Pentagon budget of almost $850 million.
Two Republican senators – Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – have already said publicly that they opposed Mr. Hegseth’s confirmation. If another Republican joined them, Vice President JD Vance could have cast a tie-breaking vote to ensure his approval. But if more priority was demanded, Mr. Hegseth’s proposal would sink.
In comments to reporters at the White House on Friday, Mr. Trump suggested that he would raise at least one Republican to oppose Mr. Hegseth’s confirmation.
He said: “I’m really surprised that Collins and Murkowski would do this,” he said to the south lawn as he left for North Carolina and Carolina and Carolina and North Carolina and Carolina and North Carolina and Carolina. “And of course Mitch doesn’t always ‘no’ vote.”
“Is Mitch A ‘No’ Vote?” He helped. “What about mitch?”
Mr Trump pointed to Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, who has been largely silent on Mr Hegseth’s nomination. Mr. McConnell voted Thursday to move forward with a confirmation vote. Senator Thom Millis, Republican of North Carolina, voted to continue in the last vote, although he said he told reporters that he still used “DILIGENT” in his name.
Most of the Republicans removed the old sister’s fire, pointing out that Samantha Hagseth Exam Hagseth gave to NBC News took advantage of her by avoiding all claims.
Senator Ernst, Republican of Iowa, who faced week after week until supporters of the pressure, told reporters that the rejection of physical abuse means “no value Samantha Hegseth.
Samantha Hegseth is under a defamation clause in the couple’s 2018 divorce filing. In that court order, Samantha and Pete Hegseth agreed to “abstain from public discourse, including the media or traditional media or mass media.” -social media, will take advantage of other parties and will take measures to prevent them from doing so.”
Such a belt is a common element of divorce that separates children, as the hegseths did.
In a recent interview with investigators, Samantha Hagseth said Mr. Hegs had been drinking heavily and had continued to do so, a person familiar with the matter said.
The FBI declined to comment.
If the Senate rejects Mr. Hegseth’s commitment, it will be the first time since the administration of former President George Hw Bush that the administration of the secretary of defense has failed in the confirmation vote. In 1989, the Senate rejected John Tower, the choice for secretary of defense, by a vote of 47 to 53, because of his drinking and conflict for the women for security guards.
If Mr. Hegseth is confirmed, he could be on the edge of the modern era for a defense secretary.
