The Blackhawks are allowing opposing teams to talk to the veteran netminder as he prepares to return to the NHL.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on “Saturday’s Headlines.” Hockey night in Canadanote that while Brosewitt is close to returning to the ice, his future may lie outside of Chicago.

Brossoit is scheduled to report to the American Hockey League next week for a conditioning stint. It will mark his first game action since the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The goaltender has been sidelined for 18 months after suffering a significant injury during that postseason run. Friedman reported that the Blackhawks are allowing other clubs to communicate directly with Brossoit to get clarification on his medical situation.

“You can understand what his situation is, what the correct surgery was, (and) what the process is,” Friedman said of the discussion between Brossoit and interested colleagues.

While Brossoit is a member of the Blackhawks, the organization reportedly has no roster spot available for him. Consequently, the conditioning stunt will serve as a showcase for teams looking to bolster their goaltending depth.

The 32-year-old transition is not without complications. Brossoit carries a salary cap hit of $3.3 million, a number that could prove difficult for competing teams to absorb.

“Not everyone can take it,” Friedman said. “There may be some work that needs to be done here.”
