The Blue Jays immediately placed Yarrell Rodriguez off the 40-man roster

Toronto waived the right-handed reliever from its 40-man roster on Saturday, sources confirm to SportsNet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shay David.

Rodriguez remains in the Blue Jays organization, and barring a change, is ready to arrive at spring training and compete for a job on the big league club, Nicholson-Smith added.

Francis Romero was the first to report that Rodriguez was coming off the roster.

The 27-year-old posted a 1.4 WAR, a 3.08 ERA, 66 strikeouts and 34 walks over 73.0 innings of work last season.

However, his numbers dropped significantly in the postseason, as he finished with a 10.13 ERA over four appearances during the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series.

The Blue Jays signed Rodriguez to a five-year, $32 million contract in February 2024.

Before joining Toronto for his first season in the MLB, Rodriguez pitched in Cuba and Japan.
