The Devils’ losing streak ended with a win over the Red Wings


NEW YORK, NJ – Nico Hasher, Timo Meyer and Connor Brown had a goal and an assist and the New Jersey Devils beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Monday night in a matchup of two of the top four teams in the Eastern Conference.

Alex de Brunket, James van Riemsdyk and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit.

New Jersey scored three goals on just eight shots in the first period, took a 3-1 lead after one, snapped a three-game losing streak, and earned its first win in regulation since beating the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on November 1st.

The Devils’ last four wins came in either overtime or a shootout.

New Jersey’s Jacob Markstrom went 13 for 32 in the third inning.

Hischier scored his fourth goal in five games and added an assist on Meyer’s first-period goal for the 102nd multi-point game of his Devils career.

Cody Glass won the 1-1 tie for New Jersey in his first game, after missing the previous four games with an upper-body injury. He replaced Joho Lamiko on the Devils’ third line.

Van Riemsdyk, who grew up in New Jersey, scored a power-play goal in his 1,100th game to get the Red Wings within 3-2 in the second period.

Moritz Cedar added two assists for Detroit, which lost for just the second time in its last seven games.

Brown moved Devlin’s lead to 4-2 from Dalton Mercer later in the second period before Larkin scored his 13th goal in the third period.

Cam Talbot had 15 saves for Detroit.
