Torupchenko was kicked out due to a knee strike that injured Mammoth Collie

The Utah Mammoths will have to hope for some good news after one of their top young forwards was forced out of Saturday’s game with an injury.

Logan Cooley was helped off the ice following a dangerous hit.

Cooley suffered a lower-body injury in a knee-on-knee incident with Blues forward Alexey Turochenko.

The play resulted in immediate discipline from the officials, who assessed Torupchenko a five-minute major and game misconduct penalty.

The sequence happened during the game when Torupchenko appeared to lead with his leg while trying to check Cooley. The impact sent the Utah center crashing to the ice in apparent trouble.

The trainer attended to Cole for several moments before he was helped to the dressing room. He was unable to bear weight on his left leg as he left the ice.

There was no immediate update on the severity of the injury or the timeline for his return.

Cole is the centerpiece of Utah’s offensive attack with 14 goals and 23 points in 25 games this season.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety automatically reviews all five-minute major penalties, and Tropchenko could face additional discipline based on the league’s assessment of the hit.
