President Donald Trump announced an executive order on Saturday to create a food safety task force to address the risk of price fixing and anti-competitive practices.

“A safe and secure food supply is essential to America’s national security and economy,” Trump said. “However, anti-competitive behavior, especially if carried out by controlled companies, threatens the stability and sensitivity of the American cause.”
“In recent years, certain companies in the United States have been accused of being unable to pay for their civil rights for millions of dollars,” he continued. “Supply sectors of interest including meat processing, seeds, fertilizers, and equipment are similarly vulnerable to price fixing and anti-competitive practices.”
