Two prominent judges have been shot dead outside Iran’s Supreme Court

An unidentified gunman killed two senior judges outside Iran’s Supreme Court on Saturday in what authorities called a terrorist attack, according to state media.

The attacker opened fire on the square near the headquarters of the Supreme Court in the capital Tehran, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency.

The judges, Ali Razini and Mohammad Moqiseh, had long careers and presided over cases related to national security, espionage and terrorism, according to court statements and published by state media.

They are both heads of the Supreme Court. A third judge was injured in the attack.

Iranian courts have described the episode as a terrorist attack and the shooting as a targeted killing, according to Mizan, another state media outlet.

The attacker killed himself before the police could arrest him, Mizan said. The police opened an investigation.
