Ukraine claims to have struck a Russian oil refinery in a major drone attack

Andriy Kovalenko, the head of Ukraine’s center for countering disinformation, said on Telegram that the oil refinery in Ryazan had been hit, as well as the Kremniy plant in Bryansk. Kyiv said the facility produces components for missiles and other weapons.

Bloggers on the Telegram social media site posted pictures and videos of the raging fire in Ryazan. Footage originally verified by the BBC shows people fleeing the site in cars as the fire takes hold.

Russia’s state-owned news agency RIA quoted a statement from the Kremniy factory in Bryansk, which said work had been suspended following an attack involving six drones. Pavel Malkov, the regional governor, said emergency services responded.

The Kremlin acknowledged the attack but did not mention damage or casualties.

It claimed to have destroyed 121 Ukrainian drones, including six in the Moscow region, 20 in the Ryazan region, and a number in the Bryansk border region.

Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, said the city’s air defenses had intercepted Ukrainian drone strikes in four locations.

He said the air defense southeast of the capital in Kolomna and Ramenskoye has also repelled drones, without specifying how many. He said there was no damage.
